Edition 30 Brakes?

Can anyone pass comment on how many miles it is likely to take to properly bed in new brakes on an Edition 30?
Our car has covered just 2000 miles since new in 12 months  , but after driving the car with 'more urgency' today, I was very surprised to find a distinct lack of retardation from high speed! Now I know many have commented on poor brakes many times but I feel these are worse than my Diesel Gt by a  long way  . Stopping from slow speed feels fine but a rapid stop from the legal limit the pedal goes 'solid'  just as though the brakes are not bedded in after say new pads!

i think the brakes on the gt are the same aren't they? yes they do fade a bit the R32 set up would have been a good idea for the ED30 from factory really, thats why so many people upgrade i guess!

After 5k miles I upgraded to the 345mm R32 setup as i felt the standard items while ok weren't going to suffice.

Could be wrong here but it sounds to me like your pads have become glazed.

Personally, from the moment I owned the car to now, I've found that the brakes are fantastic at anything below 50mph, but anything above and they're lacking in stopping power.

As others have said in other posts the Cupra and the R32 both have better brakes and would have been great on the GTI.

Could be wrong here but it sounds to me like your pads have become glazed.

Thanks for the comments. As I intend to keep our car standard, replacing the brakes is not an option. If the pads have become glazed apart from replacment pads is there a solution?

My edition 30 brakes are rubbish too!

My previous GTI V was much better, and my Diesel VW Jetta has better brakes than both, work that out!!

Not much you can do, you can try sanding the pads down slightly to remove the glaze, other than - new pads.

I wonder if the pad material used in the Ed is harder or a different material?

A new set of upgraded pads and decent fluid makes a world of difference.

I found the same as you with the OE pad compound.

I've given the EBC Yellows and Motul fluid as a stop gap and have to say they have performed very well on a budget upgrade.

They've done a hard trackday at Combe in the summer and came back well afterwards.

I've used big big brakes before and other manufacturers such as Pagid. Tarox and Ferodo and have been pleasantly surprised with the EBC's.
