Speaker Upgrade?

I just noticed a guy on ebay selling the Genuine Front 6spkr Upgrade kit on ebay. Do these come as standard with the Edition30? If so are they any good?

They are only £50 on ebay. I had a look at VW and they are either the £196 or the £271 speakers

i had them in my gttdi when i spec up my car from new-they are ok speaker but you will be better of with good after market ones

There are some Focal components for the mk5 on ebay at the moment. Are these a good upgrade?

I would really love to upgrade the speakers and add my amplifier and dynamat the doors etc and then add another amp and sub

I'd spend what you can on some aftermarket ones.

I have Hertz "Hi-energy" components up front and Coax in the rear with a 10" sub in the rear arch well. An Audison 4 way amp to power the fronts and the sub just gives the speakers that little extra that they need to bring the sound to life.
I've had the doors and boot Dynamatted to help deaden out unwanted vibes and it works a treat.

Where should i be looking for the hertz ones John? Are these specifically for the golf? What did you think to the Focals in the link?

Also, not really havin investigated into the speakers yet, i wondered about the rears. I presume they are 2way components? mid/tweeters? does anyone know the size of these please?

In the rear I had the tweeters deleted as they are up near your head and too "buzzy" for my liking. They are 2 way coax speakers, which is a better mix IMHO.

The Hertz speakers are superb. They fit very well with the GTI and have a good reputation, so they don't tend to advertise as much as some other makes of speakers. The focals look good, but the hertz ones I have are a higher spec.

focals are a good quality speaker as are hertz that are in hurdys--the dynamatt does help keeping the bass and sound in the car--mine has it in the doors and the boot-but it isn't cheep thou but well worth it  if your into sounds

Thanks again guy's   So far i have managed to put up with the stock system, but i don't know how long i can keep it up! Shame that the RNS510 dosent have the RCA outputs tho. Will connecting fly leads instead lessen the sound quality?

Can anyone else confirm that my old pioneer amplifier will be up to the job of entering my car. I would like to use it if poss cos it has hardly been used! It is a Pioneer GM-X554..............or should i just sell it and get something more up to date?

the fly wires will reduce the sound-if your not entering comps with the system it will be fine--the amp you mention is a good  amp

I've bought a set of these and they make a big difference the vocals are much more vibrant. I did come from the 8 speaker set up so the mids up front are great as I didn't have any before. They are running of an RNS510 which may have more power than the RCD300 though.

You will also need the £23 fitting kit (loom) if you don't have 10 speakers now. All in all it cost me £75 as I got a bit of discount from the ebayer and my VW dealer on the loom. Well worth the money!
