Climatronic Sparse in UK MKVs?
« on: March 19, 2014, 11:22:43 am »
Hi guys,

I am a new member here, so glad to find you all. Here is my question:

I come from Greece. When the MKV was introduced there, I can clearly recall all cars had the electronic climate function.  Not sure if it was a standard or not, but 99% of people chose to have it.  Then I moved to Czech Republic.  Again I noticed all the Golfs had the Climatronic.  Then I looked in the german market and again, the same.  Now I am thinking of getting an mk5 here but disappointingly I found out that 90% of the used  ads are for cars with the Climatic function.  So what happened to the Climatronic Golfs in the UK? Were they sold here? And why did people avoided them when buying Golfs? Was the extra cost too high back then? There a few with climatronic around in the ads but none which combines climatronic and MFSW and full screen cluster, unless you are prepared to spend 8k, which is the price of a full extra mk6!
It would be nice to know that as it's a mystery to me!

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,

As this is the mk5 GTI forum, you will find that most members on the site will have Climatronic since it comes as standard on the GTI (and R32 for that matter) - however I'm not sure if it comes standard on the GT and lesser models.

It was standard on the early GT but got replaced by climatic panels in 2005.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Thanks for the replies guys.  I wonder why it would be replaced when all cars seemed to start putting digital climate as a standard equipment  around that time...

Yeah the 2006 model year GT (mid-05 onwards) lost it. GTI on other hand got it standard although you see the odd import with it missing

Thanks J400uk.  Is there any version at all from 2005 onward s which includes this in standard equipment? Gti or not...

It can be retrofitted, a lot of work (dash out) but there are plenty of donor cars in scrapyards these days.

It was an option after it wasn't standard, I believe.

Thanks skard.  Yeah based in my research it is one of the most expensive and difficult retrofits, so not worth it.  It's a shame it never became standard,  but I have to live with it.  It just makes my market search more difficult...
