Sell the GTI and get yourself an Edition 30.

- 230bhp Engine which is more like a detuned S3 engine with the K04 turbocharger and other bits
- 18" BBS Pescara Alloys as standard (GTi has 17" Monzas as standard)
- Half Leather seats which are heated and have electric lumbar support
- All the lower skirts & bumpers around the Edition 30 are colour coded (looks better in my IMHO)
- Smoked Rear Light Lens (same as the R32)
- Red stitching on the seats, mats, steering wheel & gear knob plus Edition 30 badges

280-300bhp easily obtainable with the right mapping (Revo, R-Tech or APR) :happy2:

Depends on the OPs situation tho, does he owe money on his car on finance? What else has he done to the car?

Pointless changing if he's already done quite a few mods for it and will ate a hit on trading the car in.

Although I do agree in principle mate
Ye obviously it depends on peoples circumtances but if you can afford to, then Edition 30 all the way as its built stronger.

- Larger Turbo from S3 (K04) rather then the K03 on the GTI
- 87°C thermostat instead of 80°C
- Larger capacity fuel injectors (13% higher flow)
- Larger intercooler (smaller then the S3)             (* danishmkvgti - states that std GTI and ED30 IC are the same size)
- Engine block main bearing caps, pedestals are reinforced
- Conrods have larger rod bolts and new bearings
- Pistons have 21mm gudgeon pins instead of 19mm
- Piston top ring is improved
- Recirculation Valve (blow off valve) not located on turbo

I swapped my gti for an edition 30, mainly because the edition is exactly the car I wanted when I was buying the gti. The tuning potential (the simplicity, especially stage 1 maps giving such good gains) and I got a decent deal in p/x on the old gti.

It looks better in my eyes and I much prefer the half leather tartan rather than the cloth & tartan.

Both however are dsg, I'd never go back. :)

Same size  :happy2:

There's nothing wrong with chucking a K04 on a GTI - op will love it  :happy2:

Sell the GTi, get the Edition 30.

I personally wouldn't want to take the risk of putting a larger turbo, on a car that's got weaker internals like Rods.Very expensive if it goes wrong, and also factor maybe harder to sell the car if you decide you want rid without major engine reconstruction.
At least the ED30 has an engine that will run safety at stage 2+ and can be put back to standard far easier if you choose to resell.
The ED30 looks better aswell. IMO.

The Ed30 engine sounds better than the K03 engine too!

The GTI's internals can handle 350bhp all day long so don't worry about running a K04, unless you go for WMI or even bigger turbo!

Ed30 does look better and has a few nice touches (part leathers etc) and feels more "exclusive"

Plenty of arguments for and against here. . .  :innocent:

I K04'd my GTI, I had already spent a small fortune on brakes, suspension.....etc......

I know all the work that has been done on my car so on a way it gives me confidence in it, i, planning on keeping the car and have sold all the standard parts I upgraded/changed. If it does go bang I will get it rebuilt stronger

The K04 is how it should of come out of the factory  :happy2:

If you have a standard K03 and want to upgrade it sell it and get an ED30, if you have a highly modified K03 and want more then get it converted to K04  :happy2:

Just my 2pence worth  :drinking:

In reply to the OP, you'll be fine with that mileage on a K04. I'm currently at 127k with a potent map and no issues but you'll need a clutch.
mines a DSG will that be a problem?

I'll be advertising a very tidy K04 turbo soon, I also have the discharge and throttle intake pipes too. Could be handy for someone doing a conversion.  :happy2:
