What sort of mileage are people doing this at ? I'm going to give mine a full service on Monday when on holiday but realistically vw probably will not have the pipe and sensor in stock so I might just leave it until my next oil change.

So what sort of milage are you guys on, when you are finding the blockages / needing cleaned ?

Mine clogged up and gave me the low oil pressure warning a few months ago. It was on 86k and an 05 reg. personally I would rather do it before I got the light as oil starvation is not good. I was lucky as I was only a mile from home. Maybe somewhere between 70-80k. Depending on oil changes etc it may be fine but it's not a massive job. Easy job just follow he guide on here. I bought genuine VW sealent in the end as I only wanted to do the job once.

I had this happen to me last yeah, got a terrible knocking sound and when I stripped it down from the sump the pick up pipe was slightly blocked but I'd lost the thrust washer crank side into my oil pump and it locked into the balance shafts and snapped the chain.

The result was oil starvation and caused extensive damage, took the turbo too. It was either a rebuild or replacement.

I did a modification when rebuilding by using a thrust washer from the 1.8 20v t as they are bigger so I machined the block and cap to suit.
