Alternative locking wheel nuts

So I've come to remove my wheels for various reasons, and the bolt internal spline rounded off, prob done up with a fricking air gun... Argh..
Anyway got it out, but a new set of VW lockers are £57..!!

Can anyone recommend an aftermarket set that will do the job, and still fit the plastic cap...

Just a thought - Would a breakers yard have a set ? They always remove the locking bolts and I presume withhold the keys too.

It's an option I guess... Just wondered if anyone else had not wanted to line the stealers pockets, and had got some suitable ones from Halfords, or Euro car parts etc...?

McGard or Taperpro. Both similar prices @£35'ish or less on Ebay.  :happy2:

You have to be a bit careful with aftermarket locking bolts/nuts. The weight can be different to the OEM bolts nuts. Although only a small amount, it can affect the 'wheel balance'. I had this on my SAAB and got round it by wrapping a small length of lead solder round the new locking nut.

I've recently binned my McGard after the key got damaged swapping my wheels over - A garage must have over tightened them :stupid: and the key went out of shape. I had to bash a socket over it to get it off  :scared:

I'd like to think I'm very careful and torque the nuts up properly as I swap them twice a year :innocent:

I've decided to ditch the locking wheel nuts altogether and just use normal bolts, the wheel nut covers don't fit the McGard and you'll have to fettle them to fit.
