Steering/handling problems
« on: April 30, 2014, 07:03:56 pm »
Im just starting to having a problem with my ed30. When I'm sat in my car with the steering wheel straight with the car started I start to rock the steering from side to side slowly and there seems to be about an inch of play?? When I start to drive the car the steering just feels really light and unstable when trying to corner.

The car has

Anti lift kit
Coilovers
Ploy front lca bushes
New ball joints

So should really feel tight when cornering. A friend of mine said it could be the rack, he said they have valves in them that open n close when cornering and they could be sticking open when Turning or is there a steering control unit that could be playing up? Do these have power steering fluid?

Could any1 think of anything?

Thanks n advance

I would get the car on stands get someone to hold the steering wheel while you try to work out where the play is. If you say all your components are all relatively new I would check if everything is tight under there, subframe, rack, arms, a balloonists etc, if not I sound like play in the column or UJ at the bottom of the column, 2 plastic clips behind the pedals remove the trim, you can get move wheel while looking to see if the rack moves when UJ does etc, will need 2 ppl again tho.

Rack change isn't to bad, just make sure u get the alignment done reflash at VW, charge for half hours labour to code... If they know how to do it lol
