What brakes for my Gttdi?
« on: May 02, 2014, 06:44:43 pm »
Hey, recently joined the forum after buying my first VW, pretty new to the scene. I need to replace my back disks and pads so thought I'd buy the fronts at the same time, looking for a brake upgrade which will look good under my new audi rotors and also deliver good performance at a reasonable price. Any suggestions?

Cheers!

Gti or r32 brakes are all compatible with your hubs.

Gti has 312 front and 282 rear

R32 has 345 front and 310 rear

You can get a set of gti brakes for £100+ Or r32 for around £300 front and £200 rear.

Next: turborevs SMIC, 20vt pancake pipe and silicone connectors.

Where should I buy them from? I'll need to buy gti calipers right, how do I know if they'll fit under 18" audi rotors?

Cheers for the help!

Your gttdi calipers are already the same size as gti calipers  :happy2:

All you need are carriers, dust shields pads and calipers

Thanks.

Problem is;

No one splits them

You can buy a full replacement set of second hand gti ones for less than the cost of the carriers and dust shields new.

I upgraded my Gti's to r32's front and rear + braided hose's which I think is a must. But the only thing is the front discs are a little pricey but I think I my total set up including havin the calipers blasted and powder coated red cost me £650 in the end but I did manage to get the two front discs for £20 brand spankin at a show. If it was me I would want to put 32s on it but the cheaper choice would be to put Gti's on it.

Some people say not to do the back but I found under heavy braking the back stepped out
Was the same thing when I put 312s on my mk4 bora so I put 256s vented bigger discs on the rear.

But got to say that I love the braking power from them thoe. So choice ice is yours with your budget.

Just thinking about it I've got the discs that came with my 32 brakes they are like brand new with I very slight lip if any really less than a mil just need a rub down with the a wire brush only reason I did fit them is as I found mine at the price I did. So if you go for a 32 set up message me and you can have them for £20 if you come and collect or could meet you locally.

Thanks

Aled

I fitted S3 345s and vented 310s with braided hoses. A local scrap yard let me have the lot for £250 cash then I fitted new discs and pads and painted the lot. Stopping power is bang on, saved the GT tdi a coupe of times!

Wow that's lucky to find them in the scrappy they normally go straight away and the only one set I found he wanted £700 at the time I couldn't find a full set for under £500 but did have to get new carriers for the rear and rear discs in which Dave B sorted me out with and virtually new rocco r calipers, high temp fluid, braided hoses and s3 clips  as well which are a sort after item.

But like the other lads say and I would say go for the complete 32/s3 set up and braided hoses are a must.

Here's the discs

I was over the moon with the price, they obviously didn't know what they were selling. I got a full gti leather interior from the same place for £400 plus my worn leathers!
