as the sun put in an apperance today i thought i would investigate my problem with first gear
not all of the time but most i have been having a nightmare trying to select first gear so i thought i would investigate and try to get to the bottom of it
after removing the airbox the shift and cables are easy to see, i thought it was going to be a case of adjustment or bushes worn
so i locked the gearlever in place with a drill bit
locked the shifter in place with the black l shaped rod on the front lower right side of the gearbox
and adjusted the cables
this made no difference at all !
so when i was looking around the genral area of the shifter i could see a lot of play in the shifter plate it self
tried the 13 mm nut that holds the plate in place seemed tight put a socket on it and it went up 2 full turns
now the plate has no play adjusted the cables again and bingo i can select first gear as smooth as silk
just thought i would share this in case any one else has simmilar problems as the first thing i thought was new clutch and dmf
