Stream music iPhone to RCD300
« on: May 12, 2014, 07:34:54 pm »
Hi guys

So I've spent loads of time researching various stereo upgrades. I originally started thinking about RNS510 but the main feature I wanted was to stream music from iPhone so with Bluetooth kit, plus Canbus gateway even used the upgrade was quite expensive. I then started thinking about used RCD510s and more recently thought about RCD310 but still need to spend dosh on canbus and Bluetooth.

I've now recently discovered that there may be a simpler and possibly cheaper fix. Can I just get a MDI connect for RCD300 then add a wireless adaptor? Anyone done this? Which parts would you recommend?

The main feature I want is music streaming. I'm not bothered about making calls when I'm driving. I also don't need a touch screen and happy to keep things simple. I would prefer better SQ but is there a massive difference between RCD300 and RCD510/310? I don't have particularly sophisticated ears!

Any thoughts welcome!

Cheers

Len

What is an IPOD adaptor? What functionality does that give you?

I tried to connect a bluetooth adaptor to the iPod connector in my armrest and it didn't work, it wouldn't even power it up let alone connect, ended up buying an old 2nd gen iPod nano and leaving it connected in the arm rest.

Connects2 do a great interface for iPhone to RCD range. Have a look on eBay / google

I've connected a Bluetooth attachment to my iPod connection in the arm rest so I can stream my HTC one to it. The reason you didn't get power is because the old iPods are 12V which the connection in the armrest is set up as. Newer iPods or Bluetooth connectors are 5V. You can go on eBay and buy a 12v to 5v connector as they use different pins. All in all it cost me £12 to stream from my phone.

This is pretty much what I've got. Obviously you can't change track through the steering wheel. I'm not that fussed and for the price you can't go wrong
