Loss Of Power/Engine Too Lean CEL
« on: May 19, 2014, 09:28:52 pm »
Hey all,

Just had my first CEL come up on my '05 GTI with a Stage 1 map on it, I took it out for the day to Wales and on the way back I noticed a complete loss of power, felt like the car was NASP, so I pulled in to a services, sat down and got a drink and then started it back up and it felt fine again and I could hear the turbo. So when I got home I was dropping the Mrs off when the engine management light came on, I'd suspected the DV needed changing as I haven't yet done it since I got it mapped.

I've just code read it and I was expecting something boost related to show up, however it has come up with a Too Lean code which I've just cleared, am I right in thinking that if the DV has completely gone it will be letting too much air into the intake and might make it run too rich?  I've also noticed high idle when the engine gets to temp, I pulled the dip stick out just then while the engine was on and could hear the vacuum and the engine went lumpy so I'm assuming it isn't the PCV, although this hasn't been done either. What direction should I be taking with this, pull out the DV and get it replaced for £36 (TPS's prices at the moment for the Rev. D valve I think) or is there something else I should be checking?

Cheers

Get a proper vcds scan to shed mode light on the problem...
Without traction power is nothing!
