Check the air-con, look for water in the top brake light, listen for grinding on full lock, check its had its 40k DSG service, and all the usual stuff that you check on any car.  :happy2:

look for scrubbing on the inner arches, wear on the seats, damage to the load area for the boot (upper part of the rear bumper)...usual history checks and service check (dont trust the book ask the service/dealer for verification)

do you have an iPhone?

download 'used car expert' its a free app, a good launch point

actually a MK5 buyers guide would be a good thing for the forum me thinks

....I gotta ask you why, VC?

We (VWR) just raised my suspension a tiny fraction today to stop arch rubbing with the change of offset on my new OZ wheels.

Mine's an 05 DSG with 76k miles. Still looks and feels brand new. Probably because of all the aftermarket replacement parts!!

To be honest I would look for a stack of service stamps and receipts.

I would also ensure that the cambelt had been changed and DSG fluid/oil changed and that any ECU updat had been carried out.

I'd second the air conditioning comment. My compressor failed outside of the cars warranty period, but luckily VW offered to pay for it's replacement, plus 50% of the labour, probably because I bought the car from them and have always had all work/servicing done with them. Had they not it would have been a huge cost. I gather others here have had problems with compressors too.
