Fans / cooling?
« on: May 29, 2014, 04:37:05 pm »
A query to do with the cooling fans..

Everytime i drive the car the fans seem to come on fairly regular whether i've trawled my way to town centre (roughly 1 mile) or if i go for a blast on the country roads.. Just wondering if this is normal with the GTI's as its beginning to make me wonder a little if something could possibly be wrong?..

Ii think I'm still used to my old 1.6 MK5 Golf and i barely ever heard the fans on that car in comparison to the GTI i've recently bought.

Is there any visual checks i can do when the car is running or warmed up at all? as in are both fans meant to be running or is one an auxiliary fan or any pointers like that? The car doesn't seem to be over heating as I'm always keeping an eye on the heating dial and clocks etc.

Appreciate any help / pointers anyone can offer.
Thanks,
Carl.

If the aircon is switched on the fans will be on!

The small fan will be on whenever air con is on, but you shouldn't really notice the noise. When my small fan broke, the big one was coming on to compensate and that certainly was noticeable. Might be worth checking if your small one is running

I have a feeling there is probably a problem with the aircon now haha.. i'll have to see.. don't really use the aircon much but i have found out from a friend which said apparently when you press the econ button this turns the aircon off completely? as i know the aircon is running at all times in the background.

Will have a look at the small fan with the aircon switched on later.

Just to be clear though i think its the bigger fan of the two is whats making all the noise and the fact that it seems to be on fairly often and loud which i haven't noticed with any of the older two MK5's i've had in the past thats all.. So it may be that nothing is wrong with the aircon.. I may just be overthinking about it but thought id ask as its better safe than sorry they say

Thanks fella's for the pointers :happy2:
