Sticking Clutch Pedal - HELP ! - *Update*
« on: October 22, 2009, 09:46:13 am »
Morning chaps,

Over the last couple of weeks my clutch pedal has started to get a bit sticky. It is slow to return to position from the bottom of it's movement... it's got to the point now that sometimes I need to flick it back up with the top of my foot. The clutch itself (Bite etc) seems fine, if you know what I mean.

When I stick it in neutral and pump the clutch I can hear a squeeking / creaking noise.

I had it in my local independant earlier this week having the MAF replaced, but (sod's law) I couldn't replicate the clutch issue.

Any idea's... before I have to take it in to VW at £85 plus VAT per hour (gulp)

Cheers,
Ben

(It's a 55 plate manual Gti on 21K)

not wishing to be cheeky but check your carpet / mats arent getting in the way.
as chungster says a fluid change may help.

is it worse after multiple pumps of the pedal ??? (cue forum hilarity....)

55 plate / 22k , its probably just not enough use

Carpet/Mats are fine
Brake Fluids changed 2 months back (They share the same fluid don't they ??)
Indeed, I think I have made it worse after my recent multiple pumping session !

I reckon it's a shagged slave/master cylinder - Booked in at VW next Wednesday. Fingers crossed :scared:

gazbutS3 - I can't read PM yet apparently ???
But I did get a e-mail notification... So in reply to your message:

Thanks for the advice.. I've used Awesome before (on a past SEAT LCR) but VW Stockport are almost walking distance, so for practical reasons it makes sense for them to do the diagnosis... who does the work is another matter.. I usually use Prosport though.

News from VW is that the Slave Cylinder / release bearing is fooked.

Quote to fix : £650.52  :sad1:

Have asked the dealer to see if VW UK will give me some support... the service chap was pretty optimistic, but it will take some time to get a decision.

Anyone else got support from VWUK when the car was out of warranty ? (Has VW service history though.. which apperently will work in my favour)

Cheers
Ben

ive never heard of VW uk covering anything out of warranty unless it was a common fault.

If it is a common fault, then yes, the payment from VW UK can be made or broken on the service history

DIY... you're joking right ?

If VW UK won't play ball, then I will get plenty of quotes... but this is never a job I'd consider myself able to do.
