Help with another proxy airbag light!
« on: June 03, 2014, 10:33:00 pm »
Evening,

Right had the drivers side impact airbag sensor changed and we checked the loom for damage (was fine) after a vcds fault. All fixed so i thought anyway 2 days later the airbag light cam on again  :sad1:
Took it too a pal but his vcds was out on a job, so we used his fault reader and came up with the following

Multi tester pro
15 airbag (1 fault found)
01638 left rear side airbag crash sensor-G256
Defect
Permanent fault (01638 174)

Unfortunately he has 2 skip lorries turn up to repair so I left him too it, can any1 shed any light on this situation and point me in the right direction?

James

when you changed the crash sensor, did you actually cancel the fault code, as just renewing it will not clear the original code

Fault code was cleared, I had a quick look at the wiring near the rubber gaitor but couldn't see any damage.

Lol no, Ed replaced the sensor with the initial fault and cleared the error. 2 days late a new fault on a new sensor!

There is a plug on the loom. Under the seat solder it up properly and heat skrink and yellow tape. Was a link to a VW repair sheet for it some where, sorted my problem.

I had mine come up about a month ago I cleared it and it hasn't come back - hoping it's the same in your case

Simon

the problem is with the sensor, not the airbag in the seat
