Petrol/Diesel highline clocks for a TDI?
« on: June 04, 2014, 02:44:45 pm »
Hi everybody.

I've been looking at getting a highline display for my GT TDI and from what I've seen people do specify whether they came out of a petrol (GTI) or a diesel Golf.

Is this because the petrol ones do not work for a diesel car and vice versa or is it simply because they look different.  I appreciate that this might be a really stupid question either way but I did want to double check before running into buying something and then realising it doesn't work properly.

Thanks in advance.

Different RPM scaling, some symbols are different and therefore missing/extra (EPC, glowplug etc).

You are better off buying the right ones in my opinion, especially if planning on selling the car with the highline still on.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I'm guessing it would have something to do with the Rev counter - not sure though.

I assumed if there would be issues it would surround the Rev counter but didn't think of glow plug lights etc, I will be buying proper diesel ones then.

Just as well I checked, thanks a lot guys  :happy2:

Buy GTI ones if you want

I ran GTI US clocks in my TDI for a year and had no issues at all.

Never had any problems with fuel lights either

Glow plug light would illuminate engine light.
Revs display correctly
no issues at all.

Either clocks fit either fuel type without issue, I was just informing him of the main differences

Oh ok that doesn't sound as bad as I first thought then, just the GTI clocks look a bit nicer and are generally a bit easier to get hold of.
I'll just have to wait to see what pops up locally over the next month or so.

Cheers guys.

As above petrol clocks are fine in a diesel, its just going the other way round that won't work!
