If you are really after an effective intake then I'm afraid you'll have to either get rid of the engine cover or chop it to suit. :sad1:

The main contenders are (in no particular order!!)...

EVOM's intake - great sound if you like it loud - you'll need a dry filter.
ITG intake - See SteveP's fitment thread.
Forge Twintake - See JonnyC's ED30 build thread
DBilas intake - This is a twist on the panel filter intake with the filter at the leading edge of the intake from the front grille.

All claim good power increases over a panel filter.

As to which is best is very subjective.

HTH :happy2:
Golf R gone.

When I first bought my Golf I was a bit concerned about removing the engine cover to fit an Intake but after having the carbonio type intake and really liking it I got to thinking I am hardly in the engine bay so why bother about it, so I resigned it to the garage and now I have the Dbilas which i do like sounds a bit like d/vader breathing lol.

....

matsu - On the question of engine cover, apart from the option of cutting an oem, EVOMS offer an alu one and it takes the oem centre strip. You can buy it separately from the intake - JKM no doubt 023 9263 9933 (Kate).

If you do cut the engine cover make sure its secured firmly as it can brake the fuel pump sensor thingy.

I did! Nothing random about it as I had a K&N in the standard air box!

Now replaced with ITG one

Do those metal intakes (like that HKS jobbie) not increase intake temperatures and ultimately reduce performance?

Just thought that putting a metal pipe on a red-hot engine is counter productive  or is it negligible ?
