Bonnet cooling
« on: June 08, 2014, 04:40:49 pm »
Has anyone on here drilled for example 100mm holes in there bonnet to cool the bay down?

Just come back from Si-R32's place, about 50 minutes drive at 70-80mph and my engine bay is like a volcanoe

Or something like them triangle things you see on the tele fitted to the bonnet to get tonnes of cold air into the bay

I haven't got the slit east clue how to photoshop but I recon focus rs style grills would look okay to the sides of the bonnet

No gauge is spot on, engine bay is always mega hot.

There's no issues with the car at all and I've checked a few other mk5's at meets aswell. All travelled roughly the same distance and the same temp bays.

I would personally like mine cooler, I do like your bonnet mate   ^ second picture has me sold with the idea if you don't mind me coping

Used a fiesta rs turbo bonnet, cut the vent frame out leaving 15mm of bonnet left and slow cut the wholes in till the right size and they have been spot welded up underneath. Just take your time, followed a mk1 rs fitment guide a lad did.

Will get some pics from underneath.

As above, Not sure on the efficiency either but I'd like to be proven wrong. Not sure if it would be best to get air into the bay to aid cooling (if such a thing would help) or to get the hot air out quicker.

"If" I decide to add a carbon bonnet this it the one I'd go for......

C/F FTW.....

Can you get the kits for the bonnet hinges that make the bonnet sit higher at the back to let the hot air out?

Had to double check there, as I thought I'd logged into corsaboi.co.uk by mistake...  :jumping:
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.
