New GTI owner
« on: October 23, 2009, 11:07:01 am »
Hi there guys,

I've been watching and reading the forum for a few weeks now and have decided that it looks like a nice new home for me :D

I've just got myself a 2005 GTI in steel grey, which is my first VW. I'm not new to the VAG group having previously owned: an Ibiza Cupra Sport, an Ibiza Cupra Turbo, an Audi S3 and had an A3 tdi quattro 170 Sline as a company car (which was awful!). I used to frequent seatcupra.net and then audisport.net.

I've been away from VAG for a couple of years with a couple of BMW's but wanted to save some money for an impending house move so sold the Beemer and bought the cheapest mk5 GTI with leather within 200 miles of me.
As you can probably guess, it was in a bit of a sorry state when I got it, so I first job was to tidy it up a bit...

In it's first few weeks it's already had new carpet mats, dentmaster treatment, new quarter light, rear VW badge, front VW badge painted black, Parrot bluetooth kit with steering wheel interface, leather repair and some new interior trim pieces.
Sorry to all you purists out there, but the next thing to change was wrapping the red grille trim with grey vinyl as I'm after a monotone car, so the brake calipers will soon be done silver too.

I've got a horrible noise coming from the standard monza 17" wheels (I suspect dodgy tyre) which got worse when I swapped front to rear, so I need some new ones. I was going to buy some 18" RS6 replicas, but thought I'd see if anyone had anything better going cheap first as it looks like some members change theirs weekly!

I'm also on the hunt for a standard intake pipe as mine is damaged and does not fit correctly now. Anyone got one they want to sell? Or am I back off to the dealers again?

Sorry for the long post, but might as well get it all out of the way first!

Don't worry, pictures will follow.

Cheers

welcome fella :happy2:

have a look at these?

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8324.0
They do look good and I had BBS CH in 19" on my 330d convertible (they were damn exepensive at 9.5" wide at the rear!)
but I'm only looking to spend £500 on wheels and tyres at the moment. Later on I'll upgrade to decent wheels and tyres but keeping it fairly cheap at the moment. All my momey is going towards impending house move and wedding too :-(

I need to get some Eibach sportline springs too if there's any of theose kicking around.

My plan of rear parking sensors is working out far more than I wanted too. I hate after market stick on jobs that sit proud of the bumper (like I've put on my fiance's Mk4 ;-) ) so I've already bought a new bumper with the factory cut outs and mounting adapters....

Thanks for the welcmoe guys  :happy2:
