If it's kangarooing in 1st and 2nd then it could be mechatronics, but before panicking about it I'd try and do a DSG reset, this can be done at a VW dealer or look for a member on here with VCDS. Has the DSG been serviced accordingly? Anyway, first thing I'd do is contact the dealer you bought the car from so they are aware of the problem, the sooner you tell them the better.
With regards to the clicking you hear, does this only occur in D mode when the box is gearing down? I had this clicking on my old ed30, would click as it engages into 2nd gear from 3rd, and then it started to do it from 5th into 4th. I had no other symptoms at all though, just the slight click noise. I had the mechatronics replace which didn't cure it, then had clutch packs changed which got rid of it.
Noticed the same thing on our Golf R, sometimes would get a slight click noise when gearing down from 3rd to 2nd so the dealer changed the DSG oil, then replaced mechatronics, then replaced clutch packs. This was covered by warranty so those were the steps they had to take. If I was paying for the repair though I'd ask them just to change the clutch packs as this seems to be the cause.
I don't know if the clicking is classed as an issue or not, I've read threads on various forums from people with the same problem and it seems most people just put up with it as it causes no other symptoms like jerking etc.
If it is the mechatronics unit at fault, £1k wouldn't cover it unfortunately.
Good luck with getting it sorted.
