2005 gti with dsg - Launch control?
« on: July 08, 2014, 12:49:52 pm »
Hi guys,

Does my car have launch control? I just came accross it on another forum (never thought it would tbh)

If it does, is it recommended to use it or will it kill my gearbox?

When my mate showed me on his DSG GTI it just left two big 11's down the road and didn't help towards a fast launch.  :ashamed:

I bought my car this year and I was told a month later it has launch control. Go on YouTube and you can see how to use it. I still haven't mastered it myself

I've done it a few times on mine as a special treat!!! It's a 2008.

Trick is to get the revs to about 2400 I think, then let the brake off and don't floor it when the car takes off - let it get moving first.

I'm too scared of burning up my tyres or damaging the car to do it often! I'm sure it can't be too bad for the gearbox or they wouldn't have given it that feature.

If you floor it and let the brakes off you'll do a massive wheelspin. If you get it right.. It'll blow your mind!

Just in case you don't know - ESP off, left foot on brake, put it in sport, build revs (I think about 2400 is best), foot off brake, smile like an idiot!

I found out I had it on my mk6 GTI when looking through the manual, whilst waiting for the service!!!! How happy was I!!  :notworthy:

I took great pleasure in showing my partner and all his mates how to launch the GTI!! Even showed a mate how to do it in his R.  :star:

I took it down a drag strip at the weekend, and it was loads of fun!!! LOVE IT!!
