What happened to VAG's 4-pot twin turbodiesel?
« on: July 08, 2014, 05:40:47 pm »
Just a general VAG question - both BMW and Mercedes have 4 pot twin turbodiesels in their '23d and '250 CDI vehicles respectively. Audi had a prototype 2.0TTDI (notice the two Ts) in the Audi Clubsport quattro which premiered the 8P facelift, but no production twin turbodiesel ever materialised.

Resultantly the MQB cars' top of the range diesel is underpowered compared with equivalents of Mercedes and BMW and have been for a number of years. Seems strange to me that VAG never tried to compete here.

The 2.0 BiTdi 180 4 pot has been in use for a few years in the Transporter and Amarok, shifts alright for a van  :happy2:

Imagine what darkside developments could do with that engine

They've never fitted a twin turbo TDI to a Golf chassis car. Shame as it would have suited the TT TDI or GTD quite well. Was strongly rumored a few years ago but then never materialised and got forgotten about.

It will be appearing in the next Passat.

That's useful to know. I'm guessing it will shortly be seen in other MQB platform cars then. An A3 with that engine may well be my next car purchase.

Well, Vauxhall dropped theirs into an Astra some time ago, so I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. Guess VW don't see them as rivals!
