ABS pump
« on: July 13, 2014, 06:45:17 pm »
Hi all
had a disaster this week.  After cganging the steering wheel the power steering light camr on and would go off.  So went to get it rrset at the local independent vw garage...and then the power steering went and wouldnt come back....well vagcom camt help, the techs dont know whats wrong so they advised getting new abs pump...that has half helped.  The steering angle sensor still isnt picking up movement of tje steering wheel and wobt talk to the abs pump.  Cars been laid up at the workshop now for 10 days...any ideas anyone?

God, feel for you mate.

Did they follow the procedure:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_%281J%29_Brake_Electronics_%28MK60%29#Basic_Setting

I have the G85 issue and am going to run that procedure before installing a new SW sensor.

No damage to the loom or such like? Plenty of battery power? Have they driven the car?

I'm sure someone else on here will have a better knowledge of these things... hope you get it sorted, keep us updated. :happy2:

Talks about corrosion in the connectors, might be worth suggesting to them. :happy2:

I agree...but seen the vagcom...the steering angle sensor isnt picking up movement.  From what I have been told, the steering initialization process goes through to the last instruction then wont do it...hence no power steering.

Noticed this in another post and would check with your repair if he's looked at this as the source of your problem?

Make sure your VCDS is not set to 00000. If it is, change to something like 12345 then;
Plug in VCDS.

Drive below 20 kph in a straight line for a short distance.
Then, whilst driving, turn the steering one turn to the right and one turn to the left.
Straighten the steering wheel and stop. Keep engine running.
Do not touch the steering wheel.

Using VCDS,
Select 03 Brake electronics.
Security access 16
Enter 40168 to enable basic settings.
Click “Do it”
Select Basic settings 04
Group 060
Click “Go”
Activate the basic setting
Click ON/OFF/NEXT
If successful, Field 2 will say “OK”.
Click “Done”, “Go back”

This means the controller has learned the zero/straight ahead position.

To check it has worked go to Measuring block 08.
Group 004
Click “Go”
Field 1 value must be between -1.5° and + 1.5°
Click “Done”, “Go back”

The car should now be good to go.

Got my car back today.  All fixed.  Took 2 weeks mind!  The ABS pump had 3 very corroded and pitted rings and the base of the connectors  and there was some dodgy wiring behind the dash...hence the systems couldnt communicate...all in all an expensive time...just over a grand
