Seat bolsters
« on: October 29, 2009, 05:52:30 pm »
Mine are starting to get very soft on the drivers seat and just want to know if they're a replaceable item and if they are if it's possible to get different foam types?

Great question  :happy2: I'd be really interested to know if these are replaceable too. Mine right thigh bolster is a pancake, compared to the others. I think the previous owner was a bit of a fatty :ashamed:

Finally went to the dealers the other day and apparently the you have to replace the whole seat section. It and the bolsters seem to be a one piece injection molded part.

The part number is: 1K0881375AM SEAT BASE £60.60 plus vat.

Also priced up a few other bits when I was there if anyones interested.

R32 rear lights:

1K6945094F  O/S DARKENED INNER  £34.27 plus vat

1K6945096T  O/S DARKENED OUTER  £52.01(?) plus vat

Thats not too bad  When you say the whole seat section, is it just the seat foam? Would it be the same part for the Edition 30 drivers seat?

Also does anyone know if this would it be too difficult to fit yourself?

Yeah sorry I meant it's the flat bit you sit on combined with the two bolsters on either side. As for the ED30 are they the same seats just different covers?

Got my seat covers changed under warranty...complained how they deteriorated so quickly.

Might be worth a try...

You lucky, lucky barstead. I tried that one, but they were having none of it.  :sad1:  Might give it another try before the warranty is up in April.

You may need to persist...I used the argument that seats worth over "3 grand" should not end up the way they have under normal day-to-day use.

I have asked at a local stealers to recover the drivers base cover on my edition 30 and had a quote for just over a grand with the vodka and tonic, supply and fit. 4 hrs labour and 600.00 for the cover only to be told that in 12 months time, it could look exactly the same :surprised:

It seems that where the floor on the mk4 anniversary was alloy corrosion, the ED 30 weakness is the seat cover.

Although, my dad has a TTS with the upgrade fine nappa leather to match the interior and after 2k miles the drivers bolster is starting to go the same way. It seems all the leather conditioning in the world can't prevent it happening or is it just a VAG group car thing? :stupid:

At the end of the day cloth seats don't look as good but wear better!

I can say with confidence that the leather seats in the VAG group are sh*te!!!

I had Nappa leather in my previous beemer, done just shy of 100K over 5 years...and the seats looked better than my leathers after 18 months.

I think it's a combination of the type of leather and under seat foam cushioning that causes the "premature" wear.
