Need some advise on offside creaking knocking noise
« on: August 07, 2014, 03:01:43 pm »
My car recently went through its MOT and had an advisory that the drivers side CV boot had a split, which was causing the knocking/creaking when on full lock turning right.

Took the car to my local garage yesterday and had the CV replaced but its still creating the same noise. The guy said I may have left it to long and now its the drive shaft making the noise. Just wondering if that sounds like the correct diagnosis and if so how much should I be looking to pay to get a Offside drive shaft replaced?

Cheers Guys!

Jon

Did they dismantle and clean the joint or just stretch a boot over the top?

My car makes a creaking noise at full lock going up my drive which is very steep.

They completely replaced the Boot as there was a big slit in it. Not sure if they cleaned the joint but guessing they would of.

Its an annoying noise right!?

Wouldn't be dodgy coil spring, mounting bearing kit?

When i bought my car both boots were ripped. Went to a local garage they said they would stretch a boot over the top without dismantling the joint. As the boot had been ripped for a while i decided to do it my self and dismantle the joint. Any dirt grit could cause a failure (new joint and shaft). Also i could inspect the joints for damage. This only happens going up my drive so i'm not to worried.

I have no idea mate, can only go by what the garage has told me  :sad1:

Called up the local VW/Audi specialist and they have quoted 260 for a new shaft fitted. Doesn't seem to bad?

My bearings and coils went on previous car and had same noises you're explaining!

I'd check that first if i were you! Although it is messy to get at the bearings you can check coils very easily
