Best way to remove rust from the wheel centre
« on: August 09, 2014, 11:50:49 pm »
Couple of days ago I replaced my wheel caps and I noticed when I removed the caps the middle section of the wheel itself was very rusty. I was surprised to see that but want to take care of it now.

Is it common for that part to rust ? What's the best way to remove the rust and protect it? Or it needs to be replaced ?

Thanks

You mean on the hub? Or the wheel itself? If it's the wheel then it'll be corrosion on the alloy and it'll probably be easiest to get it refurbed. If you're talking about the very middle bit underneath the centre cap, then that's normal.

either way, if you want it sorted, remove wheels and clean hubs and wheels to repaintq

Sorry I meant the hub not the alloy itself.
Only the front ones. I will try some citrus acid and baking soda with a steel wool pad . Maybe that cleans it.

Give it a good wipe and apply a little smear of copper grease to the face

I used a wire brush and some harsh sandpaper then slapped on some hammerite.
