Speaker upgrade
« on: August 15, 2014, 09:57:28 am »
Without using amps and what not is there an improvement to be had by replacing the oem door components with upgraded ones such as infinity etc?

I've read the 2-3 way ones require the snipping of the wire that goes to the tweeter in the door.

Is it pointless to replace them if not bothering with amps & XOvers? The head unit is a Sony 4x 52w  :happy2:

Yes you will have to cut the wires...the stock crossover units are poo.. I have Hertz ESKL163.L in my fronts... mids are a very tight fit so aren't in yet...but tweeter and large speaker are... crossover unit is nice and easy to do for anyone capable with audio.. big improvement.

Really not fused about adding any more kit if it's not necessary, just wondering if there's a half decent improvement to be had by simply swapping the speakers of if it's just money wasted?  :happy2:

If you're going to bother fitting upgraded speakers then you should fit whatever crossover box comes with your uprated speakers. As proper ones do not come as a "clip" connectors.
You would get an improvement anyway, but you'd get more of an improvement with better wiring.  :happy2:

If you like your music, it's definitely worthwhile upgrading the speakers - and as already pointed out in previous post, change the crossovers as well with the ones that come with new speakers.
Up to you if you go 2 way or 3way - as also mentioned above, swapping the mids can be tight, but some do fit without need for modifying anything.
If you already have the 3 way, even upgrading to a half decent 2 way set up will drastically improve the sound! I know others who have simply fitted new speaker wire behind the door card, leaving the original wiring unused and in tact? Easy enough to do.
I would also recommend adding a little sound deadening around the bass driver as well, if you have the door card off anyway. This alone will greatly improve the sound  :happy2:

Heard good things about this kit. Woofer is 8" instead of 6.5".
