The thought of buying and fitting one of their boxes to my GT TDI (140BHP) does sound appealing and straight forward - family time dictates. Has anyone here used their products? Pros and cons of going this route rather than any of the other well known names???

Pros - increased power and torque
Improved mpg
Easy to fit DIY

Cons - not able to give maximum gains from car

A proper remap will give you the most. As the maps are changed so will the torque and power bands. No boxes can do that without compromise. This in turn will give you the best power/torque and the best available mpg improvements. And if done correctly, invisible to garages/insurance companies

thanks for the reply. When you say you won't get maximum gains from the car, if the Tdi-tuning box achieves +25% gains on power and torque, how much beyond on that would your pro remapper be looking to achieve??

It's not the peak point of the dyno graph that gives thd driving experience, it's the area under it. A true remap will gain low down, mid range and top end. Most Tuning boxes cannot do this as they cannot control or affect boost pressure. Yes, the tuning box will give you a gain and most people would be pleased with result. However take the same car and a high quality remap (not the 150 quid mobile bodger) and the difference would be obvious to anyone.

We supply the TDI tuning boxes through DMC and have had very positive reviews.
They are not the crappy "resistor in a box" types they are in effect piggyback ECU's.
A proper remap is "better" but for people who want to easily be able to revert to standard or if it's a lease car or one which is under warranty they are a great choice.

Tuning boxes have come on a lot recently, although they still give you ambitious MPG figures on the display  :signLOL:

Would the fact that the car has covered near on 140,000 miles have any bearing on fitting a box or a remap? Or will it be just about run in and OK regardless?

I'm in 2 minds???
