If has to be a lower spec model then why not go for a tdi model, atleast this way you will benefit from cheaper road tax, great economy and alot more torque than the n/a 1.6 petrol will ever offer! 1.9 tdi is a cracking engine
 :happy2:

Not only that but lower BHP and slower 0-60 but then again as a teenager that's all i'll look at  :ashamed:

What makes you think it has lower bhp and slower 0-60 mate?
Even a basic 105bhp 1.9tdi is more powerful than the 1.6fsi, map the tdi and you have a pokey little motor there or better still get a 1.9tdi 130bhp model and map it to 170bhp, be giving a standard Gti a run for its money there, we had a mapped 130 tdi and went like fook  :happy2:

Id personally avoid the 1.6 petrol like the plague as they absolutely gutless withe the 99bjp or whatever it is and no torque etc

Tdi may be slightly more to insure but you get that back in road tax and fuel economy easily

Saw it online (looked it up)... 115 bhp on the 1.6 fsi. and the tdi is 105bhp.

Seriously mate drive both i think you be very suprised and remember the Tdi is easily 130-140bhp with a quick £250 remap
Bhp means absolutely nothing without some Grunty Torque to go with it which the Tdi has and the 1.6 fsi doesn't  :sad1:

Only my oppinion mate but if for some reason I couldn't have my Gti id have the tdi version over any of the n/a petrol versions
My wifes 140tdi mk5 is a really spot on motor, goes very very well and more torque than a standard Gti oh and returns 600 miles on a tank of fuel where as mine struggles to return 350 miles,

Good luck in the search whatever you decide anyway  :happy2:

Definitely the TDI over the N/A 1.6 FSI

Check out these graphs:

1.9 TDI: http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/golfmk5tdi105bhp.pdf
FSI 1.6: http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/vag16fsi.pdf

The standard 1.9TDI puts out almost twice as much torque as the petrol motor and at just 2k RPM.
You have to put over 5,000 RPM in the 1.6 before you make more power than the TDI.

And that's only comparing standard, look at the graphs after the tune - torque all day for me. :happy2:

Re map will make my insurance soar. Fuel isn't a massive problem tbh...
