« on: November 05, 2009, 07:05:52 pm »
my mates just brought a r32 06 reg and wants to sell me his satnav as his getting a new set! First of all is it a simple pull my standard radio out and the satnav just slots straight in? Or is it not that simple!!
I have haggled him down to £350

It is pretty easy. Take the trim off, 4 screws then pull it out and fit the new one. It might need some coding

You will also need the 4 digit code probably from a VW dealer.

If you speak to one and have the VIN of the car it came from it should be no problem.  In fact get your mate to do it before e takes it out.

Removing the trim is a complete pain in the backside but using ttim removal tools makes it easier. Still easy to break things though. Also might need to change a few wires around on the harness (plug the unit it and try it out before screwing it into place).

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Not me, my car's too unreliable for me to afford sat nav!

I just thought "if he's upgrading his sat nav, he can't have an RNS510", and with some of the some of the poorly advertised units on eBay, someone's going to get stung one day.  I'm just trying to be helpful

MFD2 is the model number, it's the older non-touchscreen sat nav system, which is likely to be the one your buying from an 06 plate car.

These typically sell for around £250-£350 on ebay (depending on the version).

GPS aerials are around £10 (again from ebay).

£700 for the mfd3 (touchscreen) is what I paid for a new unit + cables + gps antenna + maps. Others have found new ones off ebay for £500 or more.

For mfd2 unit only, I wouldn't pay more than £200-250. £300 if it included everything.

Definitely doublecheck the unit though
