My thoughts are similar to yours, TC - The 3-door does look more elegant and sporty but the 5-door is what adds the cream on the cake to make the GTI such a great allrounder in practice.

yeh I agree. 3 door looks more like a sports hatch but im just lucky i dont need more doors. 5 doors are great if u have a family!

having said that, im fully anticipating running an M3 coupe whether I have children or not!  haha

3 door all the way for me, if I ever have kids it will still be a 3 door or coupe, there is no way I am sacrificing the look of my car for some little sprog

ha ha we'll see, I tried it and it just doesn't work!  I love the look of 3 doors, but now also 5 doors as that's what I need!

casting my mind back when i ordered my MKIV GTI the sales guy was selecting the build "3 or 5 doors?"  me - "3 doors no kids to worry about on the horizon" boom two later and its 5 doors all the time. that was the beauty of the MKII Leon FR 5 door but looked like a 3dr.
