LED number plate lights
« on: October 04, 2014, 09:58:28 pm »
Hi guys. Not sure if this is the right section to ask this but I'm just wondering if I order the LED number plate lights with the part number 1K8943021C will they work on my '07 GTI without throwing a bulb out fault?

Have many of you done this mod and are you happy enough? I don't want to go down the line of not buying genuine parts if possible.

Thanks for the suggestion @mrxbox360 but my current number plate lights are a sealed unit similar to the Rocco ones. Cheers though!

I'm going to go for the VW ones also, not keen on the bulbs they look too bright IMO.

As for bulb check I think from what I've read the wires need swapping over (polarity) on each connector. Then adding resistors, you can also buy ready made wiring adaptors.
Other option I think would be turning bulb check off in VCDS?

I have these fitted. One of the fastest mods I've made. Just disconnect your factory lamps and connect the new ones. Completely plug & play and no errors on our mk5 Golfs.

Cheers

Over £40 for something you can buy (non genuine but just as good?) for about £25..
If the whole replacement units are too bright then would have just gone with bulbs only personally.  :happy2:

No adaptors needed.

I've bought mine for 12,5 €, postage included. Those from ebay cost 28 £, which is still a lot less than from VW, when I asked the price.

Some non genuine LED lamps don't last as long, unfortunately. Not sure about those mentioned here.

Cheers

Nice buy, I just paid £25 delivered with the 1st Class signed for option.. eBay update since to say they have been sent so should have them tomorrow fingers crossed.

Mine is a later model Mk5 so unless I'm mistaken I might have the bulb check issue? If they are indeed plug n play then thats awesome! Did you have to swap wires over for polarity or is that only the Mk4's that need that doing?

Mine is a later model as well, MY2009, bought in Nov/2008. You won't have any problem and it's just as I've described. Unplug factory fitted lamp and plug in the new LED lamp. If you don't turn the ignition on while having the connectors unplugged you won't have any error.

My ebay was telling me the postage cost to Portugal: 5 £. It's cheaper for you.
