Ok, I understand if you say different formats, thanks for the information. I will need to get some +R DVDs fist though.

But your analogy between winter tyres and summer tyres is shocking. Apart from both being round there is a huge difference and it is visible as well.  :signLOL:

Insofar as they both perform differently it's the perfect analogy. They're the same shape, same colour, same size, and if you know where to look they're not the same even to the naked eye. I can't tell the difference between them because I don't bother looking. I just use discs that work.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

Well, if you think so.

Just tried out the imgburn with one of my left over -R DVDs and they have been accepted by the RNS510. I have agreed to install the files rather than work form the disk an so far I assume the update is running. Is there anywhere to see the progress?

If you saw a message asking if you want to copy the new maps to the hard drive you're set. After 5 min. you can safely press eject and then you'll see how far the process is. Normally it takes around 1h to finish.

I looked last night at the progress bar, but  none was shown. So I thought I leave it running over night. Came down this morning and still no progress shown. So I took the disk out but when going on MAP the satnav said to insert a navigation DVD, so I put it back in. When pressing EJECT it showed the screen saying that the maps are being downloaded and if I eject the disk the process will be aborted, but the progress bar did not move (even not after 1/2 hour). So I took it out again and now the SETUP menu shows now no maps installed. So I used my old V3 disk again to reinstall the old maps and this is showing progress and it is about 3/4 through the installation. After the old map is back on, I will try the update disk again, I think.

Old map is back on, new disk in and it showed the disk error again. Took it back out and out it back it and it made a lot of noise, but I got to the 'copy and replace old with new data' screen and this time I have a 5mm wide grey progress bar showing. Another step further than last night, hurray.

Your RNS-510 is reading the DVD but with some difficulty. Be patient and keep trying or burn another disc. Some come out better than others.

DVD+R are easier to read for most RNS-510, like Viking said.

Went to see the progress, but the progress bar was empty. Left it for 1/2 hour and went back and now the unit was switched off. I switched it back on, but the progress bar was still empty. Ejected the disk and put it back in and it said disk error. Ejected the disk and put it back in and it started loading again. Now I have about 20mm progress. Mind, there is about another 100mm to go.
Doe you know if the unit switches itself off when the central locking is locked? Maybe the updating progress was interrupted, because I keep on locking. So this time I left the door slightly open and all unlocked, maybe this makes a difference?

The unit will shut down after around 30 min. with the ignition off. When the RNS-510 can read well your DVD, I think the copying process can restart from the previous position. When it has difficulties it restarts from the beginning and keeps in that loop forever. While you have your DVD inserted it can use the DVD to show the map and calculate routes.

Better forget that DVD... Try a new one or a DVD+R DL from Verbatim.

Yes, I think the update progress gets sofar and then stops. Only taking out and putting the DVD back in restarts the process, but ends again after showing the same progress as previously. So I will get some +R DVDs and start again.

On my way home I thought I just give it another try with the disk and guess what, the progress bar went over the 20mm mark and on and on.I did not want to switch the engine off, before all is updated and it went all the way through. So now all is updated to V10 and I found during my searches that V11 is the latest map. Here we go, I will try this on the weekend, this time with +R disks from the beginning.

Just read about speed cameras for V10 and V11. I think this would be a good addition, in particular with my points-count. I understand there is a data base which I can add to POI? Anybody knows where to get this from and how to install it?

The database for the UK I can't help you. The rest you need POInspect0r, which is a small program that can make a POI file that you can import to your RNS-510. It's what I use.
