V9 Map Disc With Speed Cameras
« on: October 18, 2014, 11:11:14 am »
Hi guys,

Does anyone have or know where to locate the V9 Map disc that comes with the speed cameras pre-installed for the RNS 510?

I have a B unit so the firmware is really old and can't import POIs from a memory card, but there was a special V9 version made, but I have no idea where to buy it.

Cheers!

Previously I had a B unit with firmware 3970 and V10 maps. You can safely go to that firmware and keep installing new maps.

http://www.my-gti.com/3116/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-upgrade-to-version-3970-3974-3976-3978

At the moment I have V11 maps with a POI file made by me with POInspect0r. I can get updated speed cameras and traffic stop sites POI and put them in my file.

Did that not make your system lag at all going to such a high firmware?
I've been told if I want to update, not to go beyond 2810

No, the newer firmwares are faster than the older ones. At least that's my experience. When I bought the B unit it came with firmware 2XXX, I can't remember. Then I upgraded to 3810 modified version. After that to 3970.

The firmware 5238 modified version is compatible with all RNS-510 units. If I hadn't buy a P version, I'd upgrade to that version most likely. You can get it from www.gpsunderground.com.

I did say you'd be fine with a firmware update.

I think I'm going to have to go for it and to the upgrades then..

I'm just going by what vRS CARL told me. He's the guy that wrote the tutorial on how to upgrade firmware for this forum.

Follow the instructions from this topic: http://gpsunderground.com/forum/volkswagen-seat-skoda/20308-all-available-firmware-rns510-22.html

Jomafi and others know a lot about RNS-510.

I have the modded 4020 on my A with no issue. To fit V10/V11 maps it'll need the 60/35/5 partitioning
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

By modded firmware, is that just the firmware that is used when manually updating?

Standard VW firmware comes with 50% maps - 25% music - 25% POI partitions on the HDD. Modded versions are just modded to change the partition size to get more music on and less POI etc, and a few other things enabled (like video in motion. developer menu, etc.) There's a modded firmware which has larger partition for maps as the older units have a smaller hard drive (thus the maps don't fit on sometimes).

Ah I see, that makes sense.

I'm guessing I'm going to get the power drain issue from upgrading, as my car is an 05 plate

There's a software fix for that. Or a new canbus gateway.

Slightly confused, my unit says I'm on 0900, but reading the update notes for 1100 makes me believe otherwise..
1100 mentions bluetooth audio and a new fader amongst other things. I have both of those things already.. but it defiantly says SW Version 0900.

I was advised by vRS Carl not to jump straight  to a high firmware, I need to work my way up, starting with 1100 but all the links I'm finding for it are dead and no longer active  :sad1:

Where are you getting the details from for the versions of your unit?
