Ignition barrel problem - any help welcome
« on: December 02, 2014, 08:59:28 pm »
Hi

Went to lock the gti tonight and realised the radio was still on despite key being out the ignition. Then couldn't lock the car with remote fob. So I thought, well i'll turn it over and that should sort it - only to find the key won't go in the barrel - a little bit of plastic seems to be blocking the way.

Couldn't get it sorted so called RAC. He couldn't sort it despite lots of key wiggling and lube, so towed to local garage

Weird thing is that the car seems to think the key is in the ignition - even though obviously its not!! The dash board lights aren't on but the steering lock will not come on and still can't lock it with the fob. RAC guy reckons the barrel has collapsed??

All sounds a bit weird. Any thoughts / anyone had this prob??

Any help advice would be amazing  :happy2:
