oil filler cap
« on: December 08, 2014, 12:23:34 pm »
I have lost 5 of these now - appears to be a design fault? The unit is made in two pieces and comes apart - the last time this happened there where two holes left in the remaining part of the cap and the seal was not airtight and had to limp home.....

Does anyone know of a good aftermarket replacement not made up of two crap plastic parts? has anyone else suffered with this???

i've not lost the cap it's self, but the bit of plastic on the top with the picture of the oil can has dissapeared from mine.
tho i'm not worried about it as i know thats where the oil goes.

Have you replaced the cap and the stalk ? i.e. the bit the cap turns into ?
There is no replacement for displacement....
But a turbo does help....

nope will try that  - the last one completely fell apart leaving no airtight seal... will write to VW and see where I get as it has to be a design flaw?

i've had this twice on my ed30 in the last year - thought i was going insane. Turns out its something to do with the engine cover not being seated properly and moving, and as the oil cap is two piece clipped together, the cover gets between the joint and pops the top off - first time it was lost, so i got a new one a few weeks later it happened again but got lodged between the engine and a hose so i managed to get it out but couldnt put it back together, in the end i just left it and kept an adjustable spanner in the boot to take the cap on and off.

you can but an R8 one made of aluminium but i chose not to as it was about £50  :happy2:

Mine has started to threaten to come apart. Gonna get an R8 one to replace it for about £30.

Might be worth getting a 911 or R8 cap, they look much nicer, could do your coolant cap as well.

Some of your options.

Got the Porsche oil and coolant caps on mine, I'm running an intake with an audi tts cover but look a lot better and had no trouble whatsoever
