New Post Filters
« on: December 19, 2014, 12:21:16 pm »
Bit of a long shot, but is there a way of implementing some sort of auto-check on new posts to search for a selection of key words or phrases? Thinking that if it's possible, set it up so that when people post the same old "what mods do I choose" or "what are common problems", the forum itself can suggest a sticky post/relevant section to search in?

Might help the moderators out and reduce the number of repeated discussions on the forum...

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Would probably be quite hard to implement so that it was actually any use...

It may be possible to add an ajax search to the topic title so as you type it will bring up topics with similar titles.

OK i found a mod but the search function is sh*t.

It also adds similar topics to the bottom of topic page. (can be removed) not looked at the relevance of these.

I've rebuilt the search using boolean search function but it ignores certain words (what where etc)
So if you type "what are the common problems" it will only match the text in red

@th3_f15t A bit of testing please.

@rich83 you can also disable it from certain boards and limit results to the current board

Extra server load. Not sure the posts at the bottom of the pages are really much help.

Didn't want to waste my time making it look pretty. If its a keeper i will tidy it up a bit.

Been having a play, certainly works well for what I was thinking, hoping it encourages more using of older posts for the newer guys. I don't think it's too untidy, but maybe some other key words (which it didn't recognise) like PCV, DV, GTI ect.

With full text search words with 3 or less characters are ignored. On my server i have changes this to include 3 letter words.

I can do this on here if its ok with @rich83

For now i've hacked in the following PCV, DV, GTI, GT, R32, RS3, RS4, 510, 310, RNS, RCD, DSG, CAM, K03, K04 if there are any others please let me know.

All search terms are fine by me providing the server can handle it.... make the minimum 2 and see what happens.

It should not affect the server as the main search is handled by sphinx now. Will set it to 3 and hack in some two letter words.

Not that I can think of and to be honest, only the really common ones need to be in there as other searches that use acronyms will probably be by users who know how to search the forum before posting.

On the subject of server load, it it worth having a clear down of certain sections (like the for sale and general sections) to reduce the amount of posts the servers must search through every time?
