Cannot decide what to buy.
« on: January 12, 2015, 12:07:35 pm »
Hi there, so I am in the process of looking to buy a new, I was all set to go look at some 5pot focus ST's but then a garage just up the road from me listed an 07 plate Edition 30 for sale with 81000miles, ideally need a 5dr as we have a 3 week old baby the car is listed at £8,995, so similar to the facelift ST's I have been looking at but they have lower mileage.

Is 81k high or are these engines OK with that sort of miles on them.

the ad says:
Quote
This car has done 81000 miles, is a 1 owner vehicle and tornado red, to include ten stamps, the most recent being @ 77150 to include DSG oil and filter, has two keys, the original sales invoice, all the books and service receipts, two keys and great specification over standard to include-Cruise control,Electric glass sunroof,Radio system RCD30+ i pod preparation with front centre armrest+2 air vents and cup holders, Front loading 6 cd changer+10 speakers with vw sound pack, Adjustable Steering Column/Wheel, Air Bag Driver, Air Bag Passenger, Air Bag Side, Alarm, Alloy Wheels, Carpet, Central Door Locking, Centre Console, Climate Control, Computer, Cruise Control, Cup Holder, Electric Windows, Electronic Stability Programme, External Temperature Display, Gear Knob Leather, Head Restraints, Immobiliser, In Car Entertainment, Mirrors External, Mirrors Internal, Power Socket, Power-Assisted Steering, Rain Sensor, Rear Wash/Wipe, Rev Counter, Seat Height Adjustment, Seat Lumbar Support, Seats Heated, Seats Split Rear, Spare Wheel, Speakers, Steering Wheel Leather, Steering Wheel Mounted Controls, Tinted Glass, Traction Control System, Upholstery Cloth, Upholstery Cloth/Leather, Whiplash Protection System, Windscreen Wiper and much much more

any help would be great!

Focus ST's have problems with cylinder liners cracking - as well as lots of common little faults. They are thirstier than the Ed30 too.

81k is nothing for a TFSI - loads of 100k+ examples out there, even seen a 200k example with DSG a while back.

Look for service history, and general care & maintenance. i'd recommend you replace the cam follower, diverter valve and PCV when you pick it up - particularly the cam follower (do a search on here for more info)

+2
The ST is def MORE thirsty on the juice...I strongly recommend that you hold out for a 5dr ed30 as a 3dr can get a bit tricky when taking the baby in & out of the car..

thanks for the replys, as i say the one up the road is a 5dr ed 30 i have linked the ad, don't suppose anyone knows the car :) just was not sure if it was a good spec/ to high a mileage and worth the money they were asking.

Yes i know about the thirst of the 5pot, but i only do around 8k miles a year so was not overly concerned by the lower MPG.

here is the>>link<< to the ed 30 i have seen.

ED30 all day everyday! your edition30 in most cases will not lose value like the ford. The fords from people I know who have ownership a focus RS £30k have been prone to many faults. I would recommend the ed30 as long as you check the DV valve and all mentioned above must have a full service history. All the best!

I have a 3dr Mk5 Gti and the missus has a 5 door mk5 Gt tdi and to be honest now my daughter is 14 months old and in a front facing seat i actually prefer the 3 door especially when its raining as can get in car and sit in rear foot well to strap her in etc where as in the missus 5 door your stood outside getting fooking soaked
Although for 1st 8 months while she was in a maxi cosi rear facing seat that you lift in and out the 5 door was definitely easier
81k is just run in for a properly looked after Gti
Enjoy  :happy2:
