Pistonheads
« on: January 22, 2015, 05:01:42 pm »
Has anyone sold a car on pistonheads?ive had a load of emails from there but all come from Gmail address. The 2 today both had a similar text so wondering if they send spam emails to keep you using the site? or do they have something like "tele safe" emails to protect the buyer.

anyones thoughts or experiences and input would be very welcome.

Never used them myself mate as I didnt like to use the expensive numbers they force buyers to use
Have sold nearly every one of my motors on eBay - listed with a realistic reserve to keep the chancers and idiots away.
The cars have always gone for a more realistic price over what people may ask on more "specialist/scene" websites.
Nearly every sale was ended early by me on the buyers insistence - which saved me fees and the cost of having a BIN auction.

As a buyer I have always used We Buy Any Car as a baseline price and worked up from there dependant on spec and condition
Obviously this is a hard time of year to sell a car as everyone is skint after xmas however I think ebay is your best bet.

thats helpful input. it is on there buy it now with the full mods. i am seriously thinking ill put it back to standard. and put a much cheaper buy it or on or auction with a reserve. its really annoying when you look at the fact its cost nearly £100 to list it on 3 sites

I must say most of my cars and motorcycles have gone on ebay and I have been quite succesful, it gets good coverage and listed correctly looks good.

As rich83 said back to stock...PITA but you sholud come out the other end happy.

I find it hard work selling myself and dislike buying cars as much.

Good luck with the sale...

I sold my old car and a motorbike on PH, I think there E-mail system is a bit sh*t though because whenever I sent them through PH it seemed to take forever to get replies but once i was in direct contact it was much faster but maybe that was just the people being slow.

I think EBay is better though as it has far more traffic than PH, that means you get a few morons but generally make a quicker sale.

E-bay here too  :happy2:

You can also search for sold listings to get an idea of prices of similar cars.

You'll always get some idiots & spammers whatever way you try to sell.

Yep - back to standard as others have said as very few potential buyers are prepared to pay a premium for a modified car.
To be honest I bought my GTI because it was bone stock and had never been played with.
Many buyers incorrectly think modified = thrashed! Which is a shame

Good luck with the sale  :drinking:

Spot on mate, I must admit to looking for standard cars, I keep most things I change on my cars and put them back on or gauge feeling with the buyer and discuss the extras for extra
