RNS/RCD alternative

I recently put in an RCD 510 DAB into my mk5 which i am pretty happy with. Slightly underwelmed that to put bluetooth etc into it i need to jump through yet more hoops. Anyway, i also have a 2003 Touran which i am going to change the head unit. Just looking through eBay and this looks like a bargain. Has anyone else installed something like this?

As far as I can tell this has all the features i am looking for; bluetooth, RDS, usb/ipod/SDcard and nav. Any opinions?

I've got something similar, no issues with it at all.
Cd, radio, dvd, aux, sd card, sat nav, Bluetooth has the works.
Looks oem and a fraction of the cost.
Straight plug and play no need for a canbus upgrade either and works fine with mfsw, doesn't display song names tho but you can flick to the next track.

Only issue is the user interface isn't as good as the rns/rds and probably a little bit slower.

I got mine used off gumtree for £100 so can complain at all.

thanks for that. I might plump for it. Considering i paid nearly that much for my RCD 510 DAB, bang for buck i am not sure you can go wrong.

Having seen the rep RNS units in person I wouldn't personally.
Can't beat OEM for the ease of use.

I had a Pioneer AVH2500BT which was really good and I prefer that to my RCD510 for functionality, it also worked faultlessly with the steering wheel control adaptor.
You can get sat nav in built in higher ones otherwise you need a £300 plug in module.

personally that looks cheap and tacky.

if your going to get a unit either RNS or aftermarket such as Alpine Pioneer ect. not a straight rip off cheap copy of an RNS.

so i thought i'd update this as i took a punt on a head unit from this seller. I think as andy mentioned they deffo seem to be hong kong based as their use of english is a little different to a native speaker! However i ordered it a couple of days ago and it's already in Manchester so i assume i'll get it soon. Looks like they have stock in London and use that as their hub. I went for a different version of the one listed (ES7086VGB) so i'll post an update with pictures and stuff when i get it and once it's installed in my Touran - assuming it all goes well of course!

Cheers pal... watching with interest.

I'm in the market for a new head unit. The only thing putting me off buying OEM is the quality of internal amplifier. I read somewhere that they all use a similar 4x20w amp (the RCD300 in my 2007 GT TDi 170 is dreadful). I reckon the bog standard speakers would perform much better using a 4x50w pioneer unit (or similar) - but I do prefer the OEM look. Let us know how it sounds compared to your RCD510... if these are a decent compromise I'd be very interested.

For those who are interested i thought i'd post up a vid of the unboxing so you can see what it looks like. So far so good. it kind of feels ok and has a tonne of wires at the back so hopefully i can connect it to lots of things.

Be interested to see how you're getting on with that unit mate? Also does that mean you might be looking to sell RCD510 DAB one?
