faint whining/squeal sound when clutch depressed
« on: February 04, 2015, 08:26:55 pm »
Started my car up from cold earlier and while sitting there waiting for it to warm up a bit I noticed that when I depressed the clutch it made a very faint squealing sound, when I took my foot off it stopped. I tried again after a drive once it was warm and I didnt notice the sound at this point :/. Never noticed it before today. Any ideas what this might be?

I've never noticed it before? Could it be louder due to the cold? Is this a sign the clutch is on its way out or am I safe?

Nothing to do with the clutch being on its way out, the release bearing is part of the slave cylinder.

If it's really knocking then it may be on its way out. A faint whirring is normal.

If you end up changing it, you may as well do the clutch whilst the gearbox is off
