Is This a Good Buy?

Hi All,

Looking to get back into the Golf Scene.

I've seen this, its advertised for £10,750, however, I may be able to get it for £10,000 - £10,250, as I will be PX'ing mine for a good value.

Do you think it's a good buy? If I were to keep it for a year or so, would it lose a lot of its value if I put 5,000 miles on it?

5,000 miles wouldn't really de-value it much but I do think they're asking strong money for it, you can buy a nice ED30 for that and it would probably hold its value better.

Mines was a 05 with high spec with 90k £5800 last year

Its very nice and tidy. But coming to sell it after only adding 5k miles on it, recouping your money will be tricky selling it private or trying partx it. ED30 day is a better buy

Speaking as someone who has a Candy White Gti on a '56 plate with 55,000 miles on it and better spec I would agree with the guys on here and say this one is massively overpriced and I think primarily just because its white. Don't get me wrong its is a really lovely colour for the car but I had recently been advised by members on here to expect around 8.5k on resale for ours which I think its pretty reasonable. I suppose you do have the reassurance you are buying from a dealer and therefore if anything went wrong hopefully you would have some comeback and peace of mind.

If it was me I would definately try and hold out for a well specced and well maintained ED30. When we bought ours I wasn't aware there was such a car as an ED30 otherwise I would have probably gone for one of those. In my opinion they look better and are more unique and sort after vehicles. Good luck with your new purchase and don't rush in to a sale.

Sorry but that is massively overpriced even with the lower mileage! And its poverty spec!

I realise you're trying to shift yours, but the car linked in the OP is far from 'poverty spec'.

Xenons - 2.2k optional extra for a start.
Multi-function Steering Wheel
High-line display
18' Monza 2s
DSG gearbox
HEATED cloth seats - not that standard to be honest.

I guess the only thing missing is an armrest - can be bought for 120 dabs.
Unsure if it has power-folding mirrors or cruise control as I can't see the dial in the interior shot.

Updated stereo would really bring the interior up-to-date.

Other than that, I can't fault it - it looks awesome, though it is strongly priced as said. I personally wouldn't spend that amount of money on it.

As a comparison, I just bought mine last Friday, it's an 07 candy white 5dr gti with the following -

Full vw history, 60k, DSG, 18" monza, full leather, xenons, mfsw, folding mirrors, sunroof, cruise control. Think all it was missing was sat nav and highline clocks.

Overall in very good condition I side and out for £8900, personally felt this was a little overpriced, would of been happier at about £8.5k or just under, but after looking at more than a few sh*t ones didn't mind the bit extra.

In answer to the above question, and far from trying to be clever, ours has the same spec plus electric sunroof, factory sat nav, heated leather seats, reversing sensors and power folding mirrors (not sure if vehicle for sale has those already)

Just for comparison, currently on Autotrader there are 2 white Edition 30's for sale at £11500 & £12000 both 2008 models one has less miles than the vehicle mentioned and one has 53,000

So as both myself and  Matthewsimone have already stated, that vehicle, although an excellent example is definately overpriced at nearly 11 grand.

I've seen this car and it is properly mint! Not your usual sh*te.

I sold a car to Mark who owns Revitup a few months back and he's such a top bloke, he only has proper mint cars. I would not hesitate to buy any car off him, I honestly can't recommend the guy enough.

That is definately a benefit buying from a really reputable dealer and can sometimes be worth that little bit extra just for peace of mind, especially if you know you are buying a really well sorted car. I suppose someone will pay this price in the hope they don't have to spend anything in the near future on "hidden" problems which suddenly arise after purchase. To be fair we bought ours from a independent VW dealer and probably paid a little over the odds at the time but in nearly 2 years the car hasn't given us any problems. All we have had to do is service the vehicle at the appropriate times which included cam belt waterpump etc but I was aware this would need doing at point of purchase.

Good to know what others regard as "low" spec. To me, the one listed is far from low and has quite a few options. Leather seats are preferred by some and not others. I would say yours is highly specced and not the average car.
