Cant remove RCD300 - Advice please
« on: February 21, 2015, 09:01:14 am »
Hi all.

unfortunately at this time I don't have photos, as it was a few weeks ago I tried removing this.  I will try explain the problem as best I could.

I followed various videos and forum posts on removing head unit.
I removed front fascia below unit.  Removed air vents above.

Then I removed the 4 screws holding the unit in place.

Not my photo, but you can see the screws at the side.

Once those are removed, according to all videos and guides I have seen, the unit should slide out.

But mine does not budge in the slightest.  I have tried prising it out with various tools, but just wont move.

Has anyone else had a similar problem, have I missed something stupid?

That's strange it should just slide out, can't remember but you may need to remove the climate contro panel, don't think you do.

Have you looked from above at it see tips there's anything else at the back holding it in?

Tried pushing from the back aswell?

can barely get in to push out from the back, the thing wouldn't budge at all.
I think I may have loosened the heating panel to check and prise from underneath, but still nothing.

Really annoyed as I quite fancy putting a sat nav/dvd in.
I have the bug for some tasteful modifications now, and technology is my forte lol.

Does it move a little bit? Mine took a while, it moved left and right about a cm each way, but wouldn't come out.

I fiddled for about 20 mins but it did slide out eventually. I think I pushed it upwards a bit and pulled at the same time.

Keep at it. I'd say a metal ruler could help...you could slide it into the gap.

cheers, I will have to give it another go.

I don't want to buy a new head unit if I cant get it out.

I followed the steps in YouTube video below to get mine out. There are a few hidden screws:

How to remove the radio:  You do need to take care as they show you, but you don't need to buy their plastic tool. I found that plastic cutlery worked fine! You don't need the power tool either - a short-handled driver to take the torx bit is fine
