handbrake cable
« on: March 05, 2015, 05:08:17 pm »
Hello all,

had my car MoT'd today and it failed on the handbrake efficiency of the offside rear wheel. I got the car home, took the wheel off to have a look. Expected a sticky caliper but when disconnected the handbrake cable (or when I eventually got it off) it turned out the cable had no movement whereas the handbrake lever arm (not sure if that's the correct name) on the caliper moves freely and works fine in operating the handbrake if the cable was pulling on it effectively. Ive also found a break in the cable which looks as though water could have got into the casing and caused corrosion enabling it to seize. Is this a common problem?

I've got an S3 brake conversion on my car - done before I got it. I've stripped down the interior to the T bar underneath the armrest and it looks like its the original cable.

My question is - am I ok to buy a standard cable for the car or should I get one for an S3? Im guessing there is no difference as they are essentially the same chassis but thought Id ask. Any tips or fitting guides on how to fit. Its on 07 Edition 30.

Cheers!
