Steering issue
« on: March 07, 2015, 10:04:12 am »
Hi guys,

Hoping you can help my weird issue!

Basically, when driving straight, it feels like the wheels are trying to go different directions? not massive movement but ever so slightly that you can notice it!

its worse when I get at speed, and any sort on tiny bump in the road sends the car moving over like a gust of wind just belted the side.

Am I being a paranoid driver or is there something wrong?

Thanks

You've probably got an alignment issue unless something underneath is bent. Best to get a 4 wheel alignment done, they should check for any issues underneath at the same time.

As above, i had the same kind of issue on my clio 182, as if the car was tramlining. i had aligment done on that, it was as straight, only thing i found that made it better was dropping down on tyre width. What size tyre are you running?? 225 or 235

225/40/18 - it drove fine when I bout it 6 months ago then just started to feel twitchy.

I'll book it in for alignment once my bushes have been changed.

Mine was tracking, everything you said then is what I had. Got a 4 wheel alignment test done and my fronts was toeing in 2.5mm in each. It was awful to drive, I later found out that a local tyre company couldn't get the laser beam around my front bumper so they aligned it with my rear wheels. I got 16mm spacers on the rear, 11mm on the fronts. So that explained the awful driving experience.

I got my powerflex bushes done on the wishbones with an Anti lift kit. Took it to a VAG garage and got the alignment done on 4 wheels. That's when we saw it was toeing in. The rear was 1mm out but that might be due to the rear frame not on straight from factory.

Since the alignment...car handles a treat :D

Perfect!

Will do that once I have my parts fitted!
