Oil Change Time.. Best Oil to use for a Gti.
« on: March 19, 2015, 03:48:46 pm »
Hi everyone,

I know this has been covered before, but in many cases its people asking what is best to 'top up' with.

Its time for a full change and filter.

I have been using Castrol Edge 5w30 in the past, but I hear millers nanodrive is very good for these engines. Is this just for modified engines.? What are peoples thoughts?

Thanks!

If it's relatively standard then any fully synthetic 5w30 with the vw 504-507 spec will be absolutely fine mate, people sem to get far to hung up on oil brands etc on here, personally id rather buy cheaper brand of same spec and change it twice as often although more frequent changes aren't necessarily needed with cheaper brands!
Ive recently used Comline and total quartz in mine both of which have been fine and both cost under £25 for 5l

Changed my oil about 2 months ago when I found out VW were doing 5 litres of oil, filter and new sump plug for £30.  Might be work phoning your local VW parts department to see what offers they have on just now.

Make sure you use fully synthetic oil just take into account that 80% of oils which carry fully synthetic marking on packing are not 100% synthetic oils.

Surely thats false advertising mate if it clearly states fully synthetic on the bottle!

Is castrol edge advertised as fully synthetic, vw quantum, mobile esp ? And you see non of them are fully synthetic as base of those oils is HC ...

If oil contain certain % of synthetic oil it can be called fully synthetic for some reason even when is not 100% synthetic.
