« on: March 21, 2015, 02:20:43 pm »
My headunit is goosed so am on a mission today to get myself s new double din headunit. Will I need a facia plate / surround to make a aftermarket one fit?

Yes, unless you get one of the units which are designed to fit the slot in the Mk5.

Connects2 do a kit including cage and surround for circa £40.

If you can stretch to it, Kenwood DNX525DAB is great. Looks stock and no face plate needed. Depends on your setup(MFSW?) but you'll probably need a connect cable as above.

Will be interested to hear what you pick up. I'm on the lookout for a new headunit to replace my RCD500. It's beyond rubbish, so I'm just weighing my options/bank balance.

Possibly an RNS310 as I don't want/need satnav. Just want something that will take an SD card, and allow me to see tracks/navigate folders, rather than the abomination that is the iPod "integration" I have at the moment.

Right lads, I ended up going to the local halfords, I know I know but hear me out, they had a Sony double din headunit that runs android, even though am an apple guy, it's Sony at the time end of the day. They been making sound systems for years. So it cost me £250 then I had to get the facia and the adaptor plug to make it all work but it's a really good headunit. Simple to use. Bluetooth. USB on the front. Aux in the rear. Usb connection lead from the rear to insert iphone iPod android.

That's it installed but since then I have changed the background, changed the colour down the left side to match the blue in the car.

Do you have steering wheel controls/highline? If yes, does it work with them/display properly?

I need to replace mine, and as much as I like the look of the RNS510, I don't like the ~£900 it would cost (gateway + radio + bluetooth etc).

I don't have the multifunction steering wheel so I couldn't answer you on that one, but I would say there is more than likely a cable on the Internet to make it all work

I don't think there is a perfect head unit for the Golf unfortunately. Always a compromise, and the Sony looks good and does the job by the sounds of it

Yeah I know. Always something about a headunit that lets it down. Like I said, up to now, am impressed. Even down to the little things if having the silver on the knob to blend in with the rest of the knobs on the heaters etc and the blue light to make it blend in with the blue interior lights on the dash etc

Hi there.

Hope someone can help. The original radio is satnav version and when my Dad bought a new aftermarket radio it had in small print for non satnav cars. So now the problem is the cables... The connecting plugs are not the same. Sorry I do not have much information at the moment but from what I understand we need new cables/plugs... Can anyone help with more info?

Thanks
