I haven't done much to the Golf lately, until now, that is 

First little update. Install the new Hazard switch.

I managed to bag, for a great price, an upgrade part for the Golf.......large parcel arrived yesterday.

All unwrapped! An edition 30 rear valance already in Diamond Black Magic paint code!
Been searching for ages and this popped up on eBay.

It has a bit of surface damage, which should machine polish out ok. looks rough here though!

Ok, onto the install. This isn't exactly a guide, but it may help someone?
The standard GTI valance, looks ok but I prefer a colour coded valance.
I needed to remove the whole rear bumper to be able to separate the bottom half and replace with the Ed 30 Valance.

First I removed the screws in the wheel arches.

Then I removed 4 screws from under the edge of the valance.
Followed by removing the rear lights, this is to gain access to the next 4 screws holding the rear panel on the car body.

Lights removed, to remove these bolts. Quite filthy behind there isn't it!

And after a bit of faffing with a couple of reluctant screws, it was off!

I gave the area a good clean, not perfect but better

The old valance was pulled off carefully, not to damage any lugs.
The Ed 30 valance was then pushed back onto the rear panel, and being a genuine part, it fitted perfectly! It was then fitted back on to the car.

I hand polished the Valance with Scholls Concepts S3 polish to knock back the scratches and painted out the worst of the deeper scratches.

I will follow up with a machine polish.

All installed and looking great after a wipe down with Maguires Quick Detailing spray.

Loving the look of the car, but I will continue to find parts to improve the car, so the next will be the Ed 30 front splitter.....watch this space.

I had noticed, but that's where the previous owner had screwed in the plate

That will addressed when I get some new plates and surrounds.

It is amazing how much better it looks, makes the car look more premium in my eyes 

I'll keep the standard valance just incase, this one gets damaged.

I've also managed to find a towing eye cover, in black too, so I'll be fitting that to finish it off nicely

Little update 

A few more improvements made.

First really simple and popular add-on, £3 from eBay, an Ignition barrel surround. I chose aluminum to match the interior.

Then the next little fix, was to replace the indicator lens. As you can see, it's seen better days

Here's a little "guide" for anyone who needs it.

Firstly, remove the cap. Gently pull outwards from bottom and it will start to come away, be carefull not to snap anything!

Then the mirror, I used a small screwdriver to ease it off from the inside, very easy.

Disconnect the power terminals.

Then your're left with the motor. Then remove the 3 screws around the outside to remove the motor. to gain access to the rest of the screws, you need to remove.

Next, simply undo the screws and push the lens out.  Then disconnect the cable to the indicator.

Took me less than 15 mins, not bad considering I have'nt done one of these before!

Next up the Tailgate latch

Next job....replace the WW (white wormed) tailgate latch..

Again, not teaching people to suck eggs, but hopefully my little "How to" might help or inspire someone to do theirs'

This is the replacement, from a 2008 Golf. £20 off Ebay again! It has a 3D logo but not the soft closing action. But I'm not too bothered by that.

I've already given it a good clean and polished the chrome with Britmax Easy Cut.

To fit the replacement I need to remove the tailgate plastic panel. This is always a worrying time as it is usual to break a few clips!

First, you need to remove 2 screws from inside the grab handles.

Then I masked up the edges of the tailgate, to get a screwdriver in between the plastic, to help pull the panel off. So after some grazed knuckles and alot of pulling, swearing and more pulling, it came off....and without breaking any clips... woohoo!!

Then it's on to removing the old latch.

Disconnect the cable (remembering not to close the tailgate as you can't open it again from the outside!)

To gain access to all the screws I needed to remove/move the wiper motor. This became hard, as it would not budge!!

So, I just removed the wiper motor bolts (10MM) and pulled it down a little to gain access..

...to remove this torxhead screw (T25).

Remove the old latch and voila..

Install the new replacement. Re-fit is the reversal of removal. Easy

Close up, after dressing with Gtechniq C4, to retore the black centres. I may stick something in them anyway.

It's come leaps and bounds mate! Lovely job
I might be replacing my boot handle today but thinking about removing the chrome bit and painting inlay part of it to match my car and stick the chrome back on!
