How easy is it to change the coil packs?

I am looking to change the coilpacks in my edition 30 for the R8 ones.

Is this something easy to do?

Very easy,hardest thing it to get the engine cover off the first time you do it,be careful with the clip's holding the coil pack's in as they can be quite stiff.

Yes. Just a case of disconnect the wiring connector and remove the coil pack. You can do it without the proper tools but you risk damaging your current ones which are good as a backup or to sell to recover costs. Get yourself some coil pack tools:

Used these myself, they make it a painless 5 minute job.

Very very easy mate
10 minute job
Engine cover off
Unclip coil electrical connectors off top of each coil
Pull all 4 coils out
Push all 4 new coils firmly into position

Refit plugs connectors
Refit engine cover
Job done

I applied a smear of white grease around the rubber bit of each coil to aid easy installation into rocker cover hole but not necessary really

Why R8 ones mate the latest revision Golf ones are fine

Just bought some myself off ebay £14 each delivered
Vw wanted £43 each  :sick:

Thanks for the replies, do I have to disconnect the battery?

I was led to believe the R8 ones were a bit cheaper than the oem ones.

No need to disconnect the battery.. Just make sure engine is off  :happy2: (probably goes without saying  :laugh:)

+1 interested to know the benefit. Do they give a better spark or are they just a more reliable unit?

It's more for reliability. But they do provide something like 0.6 ohms more power  :signLOL:

Don't forget to unscrew the 2 t25 screws on the loom first ;)

Where on eBay did you find them for £14 matt

A random seller had 6 available brand new so just made him an offer and he accepted it  :smiley:
Part number of mine - 07K 905 715 F

I just typed the part number in on ebay and it brought quite a few up, some were used some were new, mine were brand new in packet

Jesus a just checked again on ebay, looks like I got a right bargain and didn't rely realise at the time!
