Revo Stage 2 advice
« on: April 07, 2015, 11:37:43 pm »
Hello, just looking for some advice on going from stage 1 to stage 2.

Now I know there is loads of threads on this but I am looking for more up to date advice.

My mk5 is currently mapped stage 1 with revo intake and a cheap ebay decat down pipe (which I am really impressed with!) and it drives so well! Its really quick and overall i am very happy.

Know I know many people say stage 2 is not much difference and in some cases its worse! which really scares me  :surprised:

So is it worth going for? My engine light is on because of the decat so at least the stage 2 map would put that out.

many thanks

Stage 2 is just more of the same held further up the rev range. This is possible because you've made the engine breathe better.

Stage 2 is a funny one, as all it really is is a map for a full turbo back exhaust. Its ways a good thing to no have warning lights on of course so worth doing for that alone.

I myself am going to get a full turbo back exhaust, HPFP and S3 intercooler fitted for my stage 2+. The fuel pump is the key upgrade, at any tune a decent fuel pump makes the difference between a smooth and powerful engine and one that struggles.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

I'm at the same stage, revo 1+. Just gotta buy a decat downpipe and I'm sorted for stage 2. Already got a cat back milltek, revo intake. My LPFP is starting to give up with giving me lumpy idle for a few seconds. Just as I get close, something else breaks!

Stage 2 allows more adjustability/flexibility/control of the map over Stage 1 and is definitely worth it for the £60 upgrade fee, so long as you set it up to its full potential

Stage 2+ i really wouldnt say was worth the difference given the huge outlay (LOBA pump is £500+ as i'd never go the internals route on a used pump, plus the £60 map upgrade fee again). There is more pull/torque low down (below 4k rpm) but nothing really gained at higher rpm. The K03 isn't as fuel limited as its big brother, it's very much flow (boost limited) as the N75 runs flat out at higher rpm.

Then again my standard pump was fairly new and wasn't struggling at all with the Revo stage 2 file so it may be different from others.

WMI made a bigger difference than the 2+ upgrade, well worth considering along with a front mount. Even in the recent temps (21 degrees ambient on the weekend) the car still felt as awesome as they do on cold damp mornings, compared to last summer without either)

Just my 2 cents worth having gone every stage from standard to 2+

1+? there is no 1+ with Revo. Are you sure it's the LPFP? They normally give up under load, not at idle. Easily checked and verified with VCDS

It does give you more power, theres no question about that. But, nothing gives you the same bang per buck as just a stage 1 map.

Well I say 1+ meaning a tweaked map compared to a map just stuck on. As for the lpfp. When I pull upto traffic lights or whenever putting the car into neutral. It hunts for a few seconds. First thought must be a leak. Checked everything and vcds and nothing was found.

When I unlock my car and open the door, the lpfp primes itself. It used to hum for a couple of seconds and thats it. Now the hum 'hunts' for twice as long. I also noticed my dripping noise when I switch off the car is getting louder at the rear drivers side.

Thats why I believe its my lpfp.

Don't rely on VCDS for codes. Check the measuring blocks to monitor the LPFP pressure and duty cycle to see if it is keeping the pressure up and how hard the pump is working to do this.

Hunting at idle would suggest PCV or vacuum leak, again neither would show up as a VCDS code unless it was really bad

But why does my lpfp hunt on prime now? Never used too before.

Its not the pcv as I've tried it with and without it fitted. Im going to look for a diagram on the vacuum hoses and check them. It doesn't effect my performance that I'm aware of.
